My postdoctoral research focuses on using ancient and modern genomic data to investigate yhe evolution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb). M.tb, which causes tuberculosis, is an obligate human pathogen that is second only to HIV in terms of its impact on global health. My research is on analysis of genetic divesity in both ancient and extant populations of M.tb., using methods developed recently to study ancient biomolecules. The goal is to better understand the evolutionary forces underlying emergence and persistence of M.tb.
